WEEK 7 & 8
WEEKLY REFLECTION ON SCHOOL INTERNSHIP PHASE 2
Weekly reflection from JULY 24 to AUGUST 4.
It's hard to believe that our internship is almost over, as two weeks have flown by. During this time, I managed to complete most of my assigned tasks and responsibilities, finishing almost everything by the end of the eighth week. On August 4th, I even conducted an achievement test for VIII B.
On the first day of the seventh week, which was Monday, the 24th, our teacher, Miss Sojiya, came to observe our natural science classes. Throughout the past week, I encountered various challenges while working through the second unit. Despite the busy schedule, I found genuine enjoyment in the midst of it all. Being solely responsible in the classroom gave me a fresh perspective on teaching as a duty and career. Planning and organizing lessons, tests, and engagements for the week was gratifying, and I incorporated many strategies that I had planned as part of my project. Despite taking on as much substitution as possible to spend more time with my students, I still felt like I could have done more.
Within the classroom, I encountered some behavioral challenges. However, this experience reinforced my belief that teachers bear the responsibility of comprehending their students' struggles and extending a helping hand to guide them back to normalcy, ensuring they perceive a reliable source of support. By developing a deeper understanding of my students, their personalities, and their needs, I was able to provide them with the guidance and support they required.
Most of the substitution hours in unknown classes posed additional challenges that I had to face. From those experiences, I've learned that getting to know a few of the students is very necessary to get an impression of how they will react to our presence. It's important not to get nervous in any classroom situation because students are excellent judges of character, and they can sense fear and anxiety with ease. However, I have identified some areas that I need to work on, and I plan to adjust my strategies accordingly.
